The neighbouring city of Hamm offers shopping centres and the Maximare leisure park. The city of Münster with its universities is only 40 minutes from Ahlen by train or bus. For its international staff, St. Franziskus-Hospital Ahlen provides a limited number of apartments in its nearby nursing school.
